JUST IN: Unity Bank Turns Yahoo Plus, Scammed Civil Servants N134MillionCivil servants in Ogun stormed  Unity Bank Plc branch in Abeokuta led by embattled Tomi Somefun to protest the alleged diversion of their N134 million investment fund.

The disgruntled customers also slammed the Managing Director, Somefun, for the bank’s dubious and fraudulent activities, which she has been unable to address.

The workers marched to the Ita-Eko branch of Unity Bank to express their dissatisfaction under the auspices of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, Ogun State.

The disgruntled senior civil servants held placards that read, “Funds Not Safe in Unity Bank,” “Unity Bank Stole Our Money,” and “No Refund, No Retreat, No Surrender.”

Speaking on behalf of the association, the State Chairman, Comrade Olude Isa Owolabi, stated that members had instructed the bank to transfer their investments into another bank account, but that the bank only transferred a portion of what was instructed to move into another account.

“We received an emergency call sometime last year that Unity Bank, Abeokuta branch is defrauding customers, and because we are a proactive union, we rose to the occasion and instructed Unity Bank to transfer some money from our Investment account.”

“Unfortunately, Unity Bank transferred less than we expected, and we had a significant amount missing from our account.”

“We have interacted with them numerous times, we have contacted them, we have written at least six or seven letters, and Unity Bank has not responded.”

“The bank’s MD should be questioned about the fraud.”

“The problem began in February of this year, and they have yet to return our money to us.” We can’t keep waiting for Unity Bank to be free. They’ve admitted that they cheated us. In our office, there are records to prove it. They acknowledged that the funds are present and will be transferred as soon as possible. We’ve made progress since then.

In response, a bank official, who did not want to be identified because he was not authorized to speak on the matter, stated that the bank has never denied the association access to their funds.

“The issue is already with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN),” he said.

The official went on to say that until the CBN completes its investigation into the matter, the bank will be unable to make any further transfers as requested by the association.
